PRLog (Press Release)– Mar 24, 2011– See National Geographic's "Adventurer of the Year" and Backpacker Magazine's "Person of the Year" Andrew Skurka present his most recent, and audacious, solo adventure "4,700 miles around Alaska and Yukon" at the American Mountaineering Center April 14 from 7-9 pm.
The 29-year-old advent corsa ure athlete is a sought-after speaker who has backpacked, skied, and packrafted over 30,000 miles through many of the world's most prized backcountry and wilderness areas--the equivalent of traveling 1.2 times around Earth's equator.
"Nature in Alaska is on an entirely different scale from what we have in the Lower 48, and relating this has been a struggle for me," said Skurka. "It reminds me of how I felt when I first came to Colorado, after growing up in the East--I suppose that wilderness really is a relative and personal definition."
A Q&A session will follow the presentation and an assortment of Skurka's lightweight backpacking gear will be on display. Event proceeds will benefit the Colorado Mountain Club. All attendees will be entered into a door-prize drawing to win a Flylow jacket valued at $275.
